Ernst Tinaja trail leads through a limestone canyon located within Big Bend National Park. The canyon features orange, red and pink rock striations, fossils of giant oysters. The name “Ernst Tinaja” references a 13-foot, natural rock pool, also known as a “kettle.” The Ernst Tinaja trail lies about 8 miles north of the park’s Rio Grande Village visitor center along the Old Ore Road.
