The Eiger is a 3970 m high mountain in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland, part of the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn complex declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001. [1] It is the easternmost peak of the chain which extends across the Mönch (4099 m) and the Jungfrau (4158 m). The northern slope of the mountain rises about 3 km above the Grindelwald and other inhabited valleys of the Bernese Oberland, and the southern face lies opposite the Jungfrau-Aletsch region, covered by some of the largest glaciers in the Alps.
