At one point Iguanas were so abundant on Santiago Island in the Galapagos that Charles Darwin wrote that he could not even find a spot to pitch his tent. Later on, when more humans came to the island and introduced feral animals such as pigs, rats, cats, and dogs, entire populations of iguanas and other animals became extinct.
